The Sheep’s Head peninsula is the perfect destination for anyone who enjoys mixed species shore fishing on West Cork’s Atlantic coastline.
Pollack marks are dotted along the south side of the peninsula, and mackerel and mullet are there for the catching. Bass, herring, whiting, wrasse, bass and coalfish are plentiful in the beautiful waters here too.
And as you spend a few hours fishing here, and taking in the still scene, you’ll have Victor Daly, sculptor and stone carver, as your companion and guide.
The Sheep’s Head peninsula sits between its West Cork neighbours, the Mizen and Beara peninsulas. There are stunning and varied views across Dunmanus Bay or Bantry Bay at every turn.
Rod and reel hire is available. If you’re just starting out, or you’d like to take advantage of local knowledge, you can arrange to have the services of Victor Daly as your guide. He will teach you shore-fishing skills, and show you the very best spots for shore fishing all along the Sheep’s Head peninsula’s rugged coastline.
There’s a wide range of local accommodation to choose from, and wonderful places to eat too on the peninsula or the neighbouring harbour town of Bantry. Sailing and kayaking are available locally, or you might want to celebrate your success in one of the peninsula’s fine pubs!
