Join experienced guide and local historian Charlie McCarthy on this exhilarating guided walk on West Cork’s Sheep’s Head peninsula as part of the 2nd annual West Cork Stone Symposium
Meet in the coffee shop at The Old Creamery in time to start the walk at 11:00 am. We’ll start by heading east towards the the shores of Farranamanagh beach and lake. As we walk over the fields, we’ll pass an interesting structure believed to be the remains of an ancient Sweat Lodge.
Up the hill and along the coastline we’ll pass the area that once housed the famous Bardic School and O’Daly Castle and then head across the road to the mystical Well of the Poets.
From there you will pass through the ruined settlement at Dromnea, pass the Ring Fort at Derryclovane, and then head northwards where we’ll discover a Bronze Age Stone Row, one of the best examples on the peninsula.
The last leg of the walk takes us back along the main road into Kilcrohane village where you can end our journey at the coffee shop or Eileen’s Pub if you choose.
This is a guided walk that will introduce you to the beauty and the history of the Sheep’s Head Way.

“I would not have discovered the unique treasures of the Sheep’s Head peninsula or experienced the true spirit of the Irish people without Kat. She has developed relationships with residents of this area who readily welcomed us into their community. Morning yoga provided the opening. We allowed and welcomed the experiences. Thank you, Kat”
