Courses Gougane Barra Heritage Walks What's On

Escape to Gougane Barra for a couple of days of birdwatching!

Explore nature with ecologist Dr. Geoff Oliver and skilled ornithologist Steve Wing, while engaging in fieldwork in the nearby forest park, searching for woodland plants. Partake in indoor and outdoor workshops on bird identification techniques and birdwatching. Explore the bird’s rich lakeside habitat. Gougane Barra is the perfect playground for nature enthusiasts.

There are plenty of options, whether you’d like to come for a day or stay over for a two days experience.

Schedule

Day 1: Tuesday 23rd May

Midday-1pm: Welcome – Gather in Gougane Barra Hotel; tea/coffee and sandwiches
1-4pm: Explore the fauna and flora on the forest trails with Geoff and Steve
4-6pm: Back to the hotel; relax
6-7pm: Bird workshop with Steve
7-8.30pm: Dinner in restaurant (optional – individual booking)

Day 2: Wednesday 24th May

8-10am: Breakfast overlooking the Lake
10-12noon: Birdwatching field trip and lake shore nature excursion
12noon: Tea/Coffee and home-baked scones

The weather can be unpredictable here, so come prepared: don’t forget to pack some waterproof gear, as well as suitable shoes. Prepare for some fun whatever the weather!

1-Day Workshop @ €15 per person
2-Day Workshop @ €25 per person

Day 1: Includes tea /coffee, sandwiches, bird workshop and a fauna adventure in the forest park.
Day 2: Includes breakfast, bird-watching field trip and lake shore nature excursion, tea / coffee, scones.
