Sheep's Head Way Walks

Experienced guide Tony Cumberpatch will lead you around Cahergal, Crimea, the Copper Mines and return via the Poet’s Way.

This guided walk starts at the Black Gate, on the Sheep’s Head Way. Enjoy the stunning scenery, overlooking both Dunmanus and Bantry bays, and explore the many interesting historical sites you’ll find along the way. Tony will share with you the stories that go with them as you walk.

Places of interest along the trail include the ruined settlement and standing stone at Crimea, the Copper Mines with their disused shafts, and miners’ cottages at Gortavalig.

You’ll also see on the route the Blow Hole at Gortavalig, and the Cove where J.G Farrell, the Booker Prize winning author drowned.

The walk will continue over the Poet’s Way to the Marriage Stone before returning to the Black Gate in Kilcrohane.

Details:

Distance: 7 kms approx.
Time: 4 hrs approx.
Grade: Moderate

This walk will also take place on the 8th June, August 10th and September 14th.
