Courses Literature

Oisín McGann
Oisín McGann
This Writing for Children course with Oisin McGann is part of the West Cork Literary Festival 2014.

The three morning sessions will cover the basics of storytelling and the specific aspects of writing for children and young adults.

Areas that will be looked at include: how to generate ideas; how to use observation; description of both character and setting; using dialogue and ensuring a good pace and plot, as well as how to tailor your writing for different age groups.

There will be short practical exercises at each stage of the course. Oisín will also be giving tips on how to get published, and how to market your books once you get published.

Oisín McGann writes in a range of genres for children and teenagers and has illustrated many of his own short story books for younger readers, including the popular Mad Grandad series. His books have been translated into several languages and have won and been shortlisted for numerous awards including the Bisto Children’s Book of the Year Award, the Waterstone’s Children’s Book of the Year Award and le Grand Prix de l’Imaginaire.

The workhops will run from Monday 7th-9th July 2014 from 9:30am to 12:30am.
