Box of Frogs

January 1, 2014 by Dunmanus

Box of Frogs is a new family-run coffee house and bakery in the centre of the harbour town of Bantry in West Cork.

We offer fresh roasted coffee served by trained baristas. Our cupcakes draw a loyal crowd. We also serve up freshly-baked breads, pastries, cakes, desserts, gourmet sandwiches, soup and salads each day.

We pride ourselves on making everything from scratch, from our coleslaw and roast chicken to our famous lemon meringue and banoffee pies.

The Box of Frogs has a great sense of fun, but we take our coffee and our barista training very seriously! We serve two types of freshly-ground coffee: a beautiful classic mix of ethically-sourced Arabica beans, and a punchy Italian blend.

We look forward to serving you fantastic coffee and delicious food with a smile!

Bantry House Tearoom

December 21, 2013 by Dunmanus

There are few nicer things to do in summer than enjoy tea and cake in the lovely surroundings of Bantry House tearoom after a stroll around the beautiful house and gardens.

The team serves light lunches and teas, daily soups and specials, as well as home-made cakes and scones. Traditional afternoon tea is also served, by appointment, in the library of Bantry House (Min. 24 hours’ notice. Booking essential: €25 per person/€30 with glass of prosecco, 2pm-5.30pm)

Bantry House is a wonderful heritage site, and the views across Bantry Bay and Whiddy Island aren’t to be missed when you’re making your trip to West Cork!

The house and its tearooms are open from Easter until the end of October each year, and each July the tearooms play host to ‘Meet the Writer’ events as part of the West Cork Literary Festival.

Organico

November 21, 2013 by Dunmanus

Organico is a vibrant Cafe that is at the heart of West Cork’s alternative food scene

Run by sisters Rachel and Hannah Dare with an energetic team of talented and friendly staff, Organico – which comprises a large and well-stocked Health Food Shop as well as the Cafe and a Bakery that specialises in healthy artisan baking – is a must for any foodie who visits West Cork.

The café’s welcoming and relaxed atmosphere makes it a popular destination with locals and visitors alike. Visit in July and August, and you’re likely to find yourself at a table next to writers and musicians from Bantry’s world-renowned chamber music and literary festivals.

Organico offers a full lunch menu, excellent coffee, great cakes and a large airy family friendly space with couches, toys and free WiFi. Don’t forget to stock up with local vegetables and organic treats in the shop on your way home!

According to John and Sally McKenna, “Organico is a vivid place. Everything in both the shop and the café pulses with energy, pulses with a sense of goodness, and creativity” (McKenna Guides 2014).
