Here at Hillside Walks in West Cork we will guide you on a West Cork hill-walking holiday along Ireland’s beautiful Atlantic coastline.

The Sheep’s Head Way walking route is renowned as one of the most spectacular walking routes in Europe. It brings along the coastline of the Sheep’s Head peninsula with Bantry Bay and Dunmanus Bay below you as you hike.

Take a guided walk along the Sheep’s Head Way with Hillside Walks and you’ll find out about the rich history of the Sheep’s Head peninsula as you explore a landscape marked with the traces of Ireland’s rich history. Take in the rugged beauty, and the fine views across the neighbouring West Cork peninsulas and islands. This unspoilt part of Ireland has been recognised as a European Destination of Excellence in recognition of its outstanding natural beauty.

Our tours with experienced walking guide Charlie McCarthy can also be arranged to include accommodation at Seamount Farm B&B. Sheep’s Head Walks

April 14, 2014 by Dunmanus

With Sheep’s Head Walks, you’ll be treading in the footsteps of the past…

We’ll be your walking guides as you explore ‘Muintir Bhaire’ or Sheep’s Head, a rugged peninsula located in West Cork on the stunning Atlantic coastline of south-west Ireland.

This wild and ancient place is a land of clans, bards, pagan gods, castles and ancient sacred megalithic monuments. Stories and folklore abound between the borders of mountain and ocean. It’s a land of unspoilt dramatic beauty to captivate and bewitch you.

Come walk with us and let your imagination be your guide as together we explore the rambling paths, weathered stones, and hidden mysteries of the breathtaking Sheep’s Head peninsula.

We’ve chosen a range of guided walks designed to satisfy all walkers. Whether you are interested in local history, folklore, archaeology or simply the beauty of nature, the magic and mystery of the Sheep’s Head peninsula have something to please everyone. Typically the walks follow the waymarked routes, however, on occasion we take a detour to visit places of interest not shown on the guide map…

Our guided walks range from roughly 3 – 4 hours to a full day and we cater for groups of all sizes; from larger parties to individuals or couples. With larger groups there will be two guides for comfort and safety. All walks are priced individually and we offer discounts for groups – please ask us when making your booking. We operate throughout the year, subject to weather conditions and availability.

Top of the Rock Pod Páirc

November 1, 2013 by Dunmanus

The Top of the Rock Pod Páirc and Walking Centre in Drimoleague offers you a wonderful and unusual experience of glamping in Ireland with its luxury camping pods

West Cork glamping in an Irish farmyard setting gives you the perfect way to experience a holiday in the heart of West Cork. Guided walking tours along West Cork’s Sheep’s Head Way & St. Finbarr’s Way can also be organised here.

High above the village of Drimoleague, there is a spot where people feel compelled to pause and reflect on the beauty of the stunning landscape around them. The camping pods are perfect for families and adventure seekers.

It’s the perfect place for year-round camping in cosy surroundings, with a warm welcome guaranteed.

‘Barr an Carraig’ or ‘Top of the Rock’, has always attracted people – from St. Finbarr in the sixth century, to today’s walkers and campers – who appreciate the place’s power to touch the soul.

Now it’s become home to an innovative Pod Páirc and a state-of-the-art walking centre. The camping pod facilities – opened in October 2013 – provide year-round glamping opportunities for people who enjoy walking on West Cork’s spectacular and peaceful hiking trails.

The cosy pods are surprisingly affordable, and the Pod Páirc is a wonderful place to start making great holiday memories.
