Gougane Barra Hotel

This traditional family-run hotel overlooks the lake at Gougane Barra, one of the most peaceful spots in Ireland.

The Lucey family has owned the hotel since 1937. Neil and Katy took over the running of it in 2005, and while they have modernised the menu and improved the standards of comfort in the hotel, its traditional charms remain intact.

In fact, the Gougane Barra Hotel won the coveted AA Hotels Ireland Courtesy and Care Award for 2012-13 in recognition of the warm welcome the Luceys provide.

The views from the lakeside restaurant complement the food which places a strong emphasis on good local produce. A tasty bar menu which includes excellent seafood chowder is available. Meanwhile, many guests enjoy taking afternoon tea in front of the fire.

The Sheep’s Head Way, St. Finbarr’s Way and the Beara-Breifne Way intersect here, making this a wonderful base for hikers. The hotel is located on the shores of the lake where St. Finbarr established his hermitage, and the place continues to offer people a relaxing retreat from the bustle of everyday life.

Enjoy a self-catering holiday at the Pondlodge Cottages in the beautiful grounds of Bantry’s Westlodge Hotel

These nine self-catering holiday cottages are set in beautifully landscaped gardens in the scenic surroundings of Bantry, County Cork. The hotel, which is just a short stroll away, boasts dining options, a health and leisure centre, therapeutic treatments and children’s areas. Outdoor amenities include a nine-hole golf course, hardcore tennis court, football pitch and nature trails. The amenities of the hotel are available free of charge to residents of the cottages.

There are three- and four-star cottages. Each of the cottages is tastefully furnished and can accommodate five people in two bedrooms: one with a double bed and single bed, and the other with two single beds. There is also the four-star Sealodge Cottage, which stands alone on the seafront overlooking Bantry Bay and has three en suite bedrooms. The cottage can accommodate six people. It is not recommended for families with small children.

Each cottage comes fully equipped with cooker, dishwasher, washing machine/tumbler dryer, refrigerator, electric kettle, toaster, iron, ironing board and TV.

The Pondlodge Cottages are the ideal base for touring West Cork and Kerry, with the Beara, Mizen, and Sheep’s Head peninsulas just a short drive from the hotel. There are numerous tourist attractions nearby, such as Bantry House and Gardens, and the Sheep’s Head Way walking and cycling trail.

Bantry town is full of lovely cafés, restaurants and craft shops which you’ll enjoy visiting during your stay at the Pondlodge Cottages.

Reenmore Farmhouse B&B is a well-presented 300-year old traditional Irish Farmhouse situated in a delightful location on the shores of the Atlantic

The B&B has been run by Jennie Barrie for over 22 years. It is situated between the picturesque villages of Ahakista and Kilcrohane which have lovely pubs, restaurants and craft shops. Guests can enjoy a swim before breakfast if they wish, and there is a slipway for small boats.

Reenmore Farmhouse is located in the middle of the Sheep’s Head peninsula with spectacular coastal paths for walking and cycling. There is also the long distance hill walk on the Sheep’s Head Way, winner of the prestigious EDEN award.

Bantry is our nearest town ( half an hour’s drive from Reenmore). It is a lovely busy town with a very good market every Friday. Bantry Golf Club is very popular with our guests. A visit to Bantry House, and a boat trip with Carbery Sailing on a luxury Hallberg Rassy yacht should definitely be added to your itinerary.

A boat trip from Glengariff to Garnish Island is a must for anyone with an interest in flowers and shrubs. This amazing display of tropical plants is made possible by the warm influence of the Gulf Stream.

Dromcloc is situated just 4km from the historic market town of Bantry, and the renowned Sheep’s Head Way walking route passes its door.

Dromcloc House overlooks Bantry Bay, and the sea views, with the Caha Mountains and Beara peninsula as a backdrop, are wonderful. A walk along the farm’s shoreline at sunset becomes a treasured memory for many of our guests.

The B&B, where the Crowleys have lived for 5 generations, is surrounded by mature trees and a peaceful garden. Johnny will be delighted to share local stories with you, and to offer advice if you’re researching family histories in the area.

You will be welcome to make use of Dromcloc’s private tennis court and our fishing and sailing boats during your stay. Boating trips, sea angling, golf,and pony trekking can all be arranged locally.

We’ll offer you a warm welcome here at Dromcloc, and we’ll be happy to offer you advice on the best things to see and do while you enjoy a relaxed and peaceful holiday here on the Sheep’s Head peninsula.
